just let me get lost August 31, 2016 This year would be a good year. At least, that is what Malachai had decided. It wasn't that the last few years had been bad per say, but this year he had finally made Prefect. So that made him decide that this would be a good year. Afterall, one year everything had to go right for him, didn't it? School didn't start until tomorrow but since his father and him had gotten the harvest done early, he decided to show up a day early. There was something nice about wandering the large school with so few people around. It was like the calm before the storm and the first day of school was always like a storm. And so was every day after that. But for the moment it was just him and the empty courtyard. The weather was cool, but still warm enough that he didn't need a coat over his white shirt button up. Sunglasses covered his eyes as he found a perch on one of the banisters, crossing his feet at the ankles before popping his blue earbuds into his ear. As the music flooded his senses, he tilted his head back against the wall and watched the clouds pass by overhead. OOC Note: [pretend he's outside XD] template by Sammy @ Adox 2.0

solace in solitude August 31, 2016 At least Elsa understood. If Alex were with her, he’d insist on touring the campus with her. He’d probably check in the closet and under the bed as if she were still four. She had welcomed it her first year at school. New place, so far away from home, from family… It wasn’t as if she were new to being a witch. Grandma and Grandpa had told her stories of her father, but they were nomaj’s themselves. Just like her brother. “Muggles” as Elsa called them. Growing up probably would have been easier if Elsa had been around longer… But Alex had done a good job. Now, though, at sixteen, she didn’t need her big brother checking her room for monsters. She was well aware they existed. With a pang, she realized she missed her brother. She’d put such a hard face on when she’d boarded the plane, but he was all she had left. They’d spread their grandparent’s ashes less than a month ago, and just discovered they had an aunt at the same time. It was a whirlwind of loss and discovery that Vera was still trying to get a hold of. Her only respite was going back to school. Here she could lose herself in her studies and shove all that other emotional bullshit aside until it had dulled down some. Thinking about it now brought a mist of tears to her eyes that she stubbornly wouldn’t allow to fall. “Bottling it up isn’t good for you, sugarplum.” Her grandmother’s voice seemed to filter through the heavy guitar riffs and full bass cradling her ears. A sad, smile fell past her lips as she stepped out onto the courtyard and squinted her eyes at the sun. She’d already explored her dorm and unpacked her suitcase to discover Alex had replaced most of her shirts with ugly cat sweaters and her shoes with slippers. He thought he was hilarious. So, dawning a ridiculous galaxy=pizza=santa-cat sweater, Vera was at least comfortable. Bright blue eyes danced over the empty courtyard and she sighed. Switzerland was beautiful. The Beauregard grounds were a magical (ha!) extension of that, and she was quickly falling in-love with the scenery. She could see the edge of the treeline from here and immediately she thought of running any trails as soon as she was able to get her hands on her proper work out gear. Drawing her lower lip between her teeth, Vera rolled the flesh idly between her teeth as she stepped off the stone path that wound over the grass and made her way toward the forest. Three steps onto the grass and she was splayed starfish-style in a streak of mud left behind by her damned slippers. Just laying there, Vera let out a groan of contempt and closed her eyes. ”Of course.”At least no one saw. template by Sammy @ Adox 2.0

just let me get lost August 31, 2016 It was a flicker of movement out of the corner of his eye that had gotten Malachai's attention. A flash of dark hair, blue shirt, and some shade of pink. Blinking, he sat up and pulled his earbuds out before easily pushing himself off his claimed spot. Not too far away was a dark haired girl he had never seen before sprawled out rather unceremoniously. As he got closer, he could hear her groan and he couldn't help the slight smirk. " You okay down there?" His words were held a slight Irish accent as he knelt down, unperturbed by the mud. Her face was hidden in the slight shadow from the castle as he took off his sunglasses, incredibly light blue eyes looking at her attire and he couldn't help the laugh. " I can't say that I would recommend those shoes around the grounds, lass. But the sweater, that's a cute touch." His voice was teasing and soft, but he probably should have known better. This girl must have been new, or else he would have recognised her. " My name is Malachai O'Collins. At your service." He held out his hand to help her back up. template by Sammy @ Adox 2.0

solace in solitude August 31, 2016 Ohp, nope. She had a witness. Vera blinked up at the shaded face and immediately felt the sharpness of embarrassment bloom in her belly. Her face went hot as she reached up and flicked her headphones off of her ears; unceremoniously losing her beanie off the top of her head in the same dismissal. Now she was sprawled out on the lawn, definitely had mud on her backside considering the damp chill that was sneaking through the layers to her bare skin beneath, and she couldn’t imagine her hair looked any good after being scrunched under a hat all day. Great first impression, Vera. Fantastic. “Oh, yeah,” She said with a hum and fairly thick American accent. “I’m just working on my slip n’ slide skills.”He had an accent. Of course he did. And not that thick, boxy Swiss accent she’d been struggling to understand the last few days. “A dusting of Irish”, her roommate from Ilvermory would have said. Like powdered sugar on a doughnut. Juuuuust right. She didn’t give a crap about what type of accent or how thick, just as long as she could understand. The whole “smile, nod and hope they didn’t ask you a question thing” was getting old. Fast. As he laughed over her outfit, Vera frowned and started to sit up right. Laying down in the mud was only making her mood worse. She reached out and grasped his hand; needing the little extra support to make sure she didn’t slam back down on her ass again the moment she stood. With her hat in her other hand and her headphones around her neck, Vera got to her feet and hunched forward; her face obscured by her wild, dark-blonde hat hair as she twisted around to get a good look at the damage. “Yeah, well, they weren’t my first choice Malachai O’Collins,” she started. “My brother thought he’d be funny and swap all my clothes out for cat sweaters and slippers.”Exhaling slowly, Vera realized she was starting to take a bit of a tone. It wasn’t his fault she’d slipped. Turning back around, Vera lifted her gaze up to his and smiled sheepishly as she extended her hand for a handshake; her face no longer obstructed. “Sorry. Thanks for helping me up. I’m Vera.” template by Sammy @ Adox 2.0

just let me get lost August 31, 2016 "If that's the case, I think you will take home the gold in our yearly Slip-n-Slide Competition, Miss America" Malachai had just a bit of sass to him, he couldn't help it. It had gotten worse in recent years after his mother's death; an easy thing to hide behind. He kept his arm steady for her as he helped her to her feet, taking in how much of a mess she looked. But it was the mess of a startled person who had a bad run in with some mud. Her tone got a bit snippy and he wondered if he had crossed a line. He was only being slightly sarcastic, it really was a cute sweater. What with the cats and the pizzas. A small smirk crossed his lips as he thought of his own sister back home. it sounded like something he would do to her, if only to watch her storm around like a cat after a bath. " Well, I 'ope you 'ave more to wear for the year than just that. Or else yer gunna stick out like a sore thumb." The Irish lad let go of her hand took his wand out of his pocket and flicked it at her, instantly drying her clothes and getting rid of much of the mud. Her name ringing a bell in his head. " You're the new student. I mean obviously but I didn't put it together until I heard your name. It's quite alright V-" He couldn't finish her name as she looked up at him, face unobstructed. His breath caught in his throat as he looked at the girl in front of him. Dark hair framed her face and blue eyes looked back up at him. He felt like he couldn't make sense of anything that was beyond the realm of the beautiful girl in front of him. " My God you're beautiful." Did I just say that out loud? Why on earth...what a stupid stupid thing-!
He was at a complete loss, having been taken by surprise by this strange American girl who had created such a strong reaction. " No problem at all. I can pleasure you. i mean to help you. Not...no. Ppleasure to help..." a flush crossed his face as he stumbled over his words. e felt rather mortified but he couldn't stop the words from coming out. template by Sammy @ Adox 2.0

solace in solitude August 31, 2016 That’s much better, she thought to herself as he helped with cleaning her up. Although she’d been born into a magical household, Vera’s childhood didn’t have much magic in it. After her father died, her remaining relatives that she knew of didn’t have any abilities. It wasn’t until Ilvermory that Vera started to get a real gist and handle on her heritage. And even then, as she grew up, magic wasn’t the first thing she went to for things like this. It never crossed her mind that she wouldn’t have to crumple her clothes up and throw them in a washing machine somewhere. Did they even have a washing machine here? As Malachai suddenly started to choke on his words, Vera couldn’t help her frown. The attention she had received since she started puberty was confusing. She had a professor at Ilvermory, luckily, who was able to help her through those awkward years and now, of course, she had Elsa, but… still. It wasn’t something Vera particularly enjoyed when men were struck by her looks. And at being only 5’2” and quite slender in size, she didn’t have much muscle to back up her sharp mouth when the real pricks would try to get her attention. She had one hell of a shin-kick though… And a few hexes up her sleeve when the occasion called for them. At least then she proved she had so much more going for her than “lucky” genes. Last she heard, Erica Johnson’s older brother still couldn’t look at the color blue without feeling nauseous. Serves him right. Handsy asshole. With a tight smile, Vera cleared her throat and slipped the beanie back on her head; eyes falling to the ground as she adjusted it until it was comfortable. ”Thanks. My mom was a veela, so… ”Shrugging a single shoulder, she crossed her arms over her chest then and glanced around. An awkwardness started to swell between them that she didn’t want. One of the things she admitted to Alex before she left was that she was afraid she wouldn’t make any new friends. It took her a few years to find a small group of people who actually liked her for her in the american school. She was nervous that it would take her until she was already graduating from Beauregard to do the same. ”So, uh… You’re Irish, huh?”Smooth, Vera. You’ll be besties in no time. template by Sammy @ Adox 2.0

just let me get lost August 31, 2016 He noticed the way her lips turned to a frown and it only seemed to make her look adorable as opposed to frustrated. He had an overwhelming urge to make that turn back into a smile. Biting his lip he pulled his eyes from her. Nope. No. No.
Malachai felt like an idiot, he really did. He couldn't figure out why she seemed to have this affect on him. Sure, he had had a girlfriend or two over the years, but this overwhelming urge he felt was ridiculous. Unbearable. Veela? As her words dawned on him he felt a little less stupid. Only slightly. He could only imagine the problems she had had in her life because of being part veela. Even while completely taken by the affect, he at least had enough sense to stop it at his words. The awkward feeling between them only seemed to strengthen as he stood there stupidly. His mind was at a loss for the first time in his life and he struggled to figure out something to say. He could hear his sister and his friends making fun of him for getting so tongue tied in his head. Even his own father would be laughing at him right now. He was so lost in his own thoughts he almost missed her soft voice. "Aye, I am." Malachai nodded, running a hand through his hair as he looked up at the sky for a moment, taking a breath. The first thing he was going to be doing was hitting the library and coming up with an amulet or a spell to help him. There had to be something out there? Maybe he would see if Kameron had any idea. It wasn't like the Equuleus boy got to be Head Boy for no reason. " I was born to a Muggle family. Originally I was to attend Hogwarts, in Scotland. But, uh, they liked the sound of Beauregard more, and I managed to pass the exam..." he coughed softly. " And you're American. And the new member of Corvus." He smiled slightly. " I probably should have mentioned I am the 8th year Prefect for Corvus. I probably would've mentioned...but well..." He looked at her again, struck by that same dumbstruck feeling before looking away with a laugh. " The magical world, I don't think I will ever get used to it."template by Sammy @ Adox 2.0

we light up the world August 31, 2016 As Malachai spoke, Vera’s stance became a little looser. Less defensive. He seemed more choked up over his words and less inclined to try and touch her hair, or her hand. Or really just touch her at all. That helped. There was also a genuine kindness about him that Vera recognized. Born to a muggle family in Ireland. She often asked her grandparents what it was like when they found out their son was different. They had been so proud, she remembered them telling her. Just like they were proud of her, and Alex. That pain clutched at her heart again, and Vera cleared her throat before the emotions could get her. Instead she smiled; looking at Malachai with a raised eyebrow as he just so happened to mention he was Prefect for her house. "The magical world, I don't think I will ever get used to it." Vera couldn’t help her small snort of agreement before she reached out her hand; palm up and canted her head away to help obstruct her face. ”I know exactly what you mean. Here, let me borrow your sunglasses.”Once she felt their weight in her palm, she moved them up to her face and slipped them on. With her beanie forcing her ashy hair tightly to either side of her face and Malachai’s sunglasses covering everything above the bridge of her nose, it was just her mouth and chin unobstructed. Making a face, she turned to face him fully. ”Better?”template by Sammy @ Adox 2.0

just let me get lost August 31, 2016 The tension and awkwardness between them seemed to lessen bit by bit and for that Malachai was grateful. He knew that sometimes he could be a bit awkward, but he hated to make others feel that way. Or well, he hated to make the feel uncomfortable. Sometimes awkwardness came from sass, but this was definitely not that kind of situation. When she raised her eyebrow at him, he could up the incredibly faint blush. As a Prefect he should have been a little more put together and in control. Cool and collected. Ha. "I swear I'm not usually this idiotic. " He rubbed his nose softly. Frowning in confusion as she asked for his sunglasses, he obediently held them out to her. He had no qualms with sharing his things and was curious as to what she was up to. At the sound of her voice again, he looked at her fully and understanding dawned on him. With her hat firmly back on her head and his sunglasses covering her eyes it was easier to look at her without wanting to proclaim his undying love and adoration. It didn't detract from her attractiveness, in fact he was sure it made her rather adorable. But the pull of the veela magic was definitely lessened. And then she made a face at him and he had the overwhelming urge to bop her on the nose. It was a near thing. Instead, he smiled softly at her. " Much better, thank you." He was definitely going to be doing some research. The thought of her having to walk around constantly in a hat and sunglasses seemed ridiculous. " So! I'm assumin' you found the dorm rooms alright, since I don' see a bag. 'ave you 'ad a chance to look around the rest of the campus and find out where everything is yet?"template by Sammy @ Adox 2.0

we light up the world August 31, 2016 ”Any time,” she said with a smirk; sliding her hands into her front pockets. ”First week of my fourth year I wore a hockey mask for a week.”Shrugging as though there was nothing unusual about that, she drew her lower lip into her mouth and gnawed absently; shaking her head in response to his question. ”No. I went straight to the dorms to change, discovered the super sweet prank my brother played on me then thought I’d practice my mad slip-n-slide skills when you so rudely interrupted me.”Smiling, she lifted her hand up and scratched at her scalp through her hat before gesturing to the woods off to the side. ”Actually, I was going to try and see what sort of trails there were to run when I got some real clothes again, but I think that’s a little too hazardous in slippers.”Turning her head back to look at him, she adjusted his sunglasses on her face and tilted her head to the side. ”This might sound weird, but… Is there a place where I could find a bunch of scrap metal?”template by Sammy @ Adox 2.0

just let me get lost August 31, 2016 Vera might have decided that there was nothing unusual with some of the things that she had to do to divert male attention, but Malachai definitely thought it was weird as hell. No one should have to wear a hockey mask to school, let alone even a hat and sunglasses all the time. That was it. He decided. He'd figure something out. After all, this was the magical world, wasn't it? And now he had a fun task to play with. Finding a spell, that is. He chuckled softly and bowed his head. " Well, I am horribly sorry. You can continue show-casing yer skills if you'd like." Arms crossed slightly over his chest, he gave her a cheeky grin. " There are trails. I know a few of them, but yeah...you might not want to be in slippers. I can introduce you to some others that actually go running. They're girls too so you know.." He waved at her face. Nodding softly, he gave her a curious look when she asked about the scrap metal. It wasn't that he had never seen a girl work on metal before, because he had, but she just....did not seem like one who would. " There's a metal shop yeah. I really don't think they'll let you go in there dressed like a drunken Christmas tree though." He laughed before looking at his watch. " Here, let's go back to the dorms so I can grab my phone and I can take you into town so you don't have to show off your adorable sweater to everyone"template by Sammy @ Adox 2.0

August 31, 2016 Her head turned to look at the forest with a smile mixed of excitement and relief when he mentioned being familiar with a few of the trails. Her expression shifted to one of careful consideration when he mentioned others, though. She pursed her lips and glanced back at him sideways; trying to think of the best way to thank him but turn down the idea of running through the woods with a bunch of other people. He didn’;t need for her to express anything though, she realized, as he waved dismissively in the space between them and explained that most were women. She exhaled a small laugh and nodded; dipping her chin down to hide the fullness of her smile. Turning her toes in, she felt the ground squish under her heels and realized she’d still been standing on the soft earth in her slippers. Stepping forward, she moved around him enough to give him enough space so that her being near wasn’t a struggle for him. She almost made it, but as he commented on her looking like a drunk christmas tree she laughed fully; lurching forward enough to have to reach out and grab his arm so she didn’t fall again. Her free hand went up to shield her mouth as she righted herself; waving her hand in the air between them as she stepped back quickly on the stone pathway and shook her head. ”Sorry, sorry,” She started quickly through a few tears; barely managing to get her laughter under control as she reached up and swiped quickly at a few tears. It was rare, but when she was startled into laughter sometimes her eyes would just tear up uncontrollably. Licking her lips, she lost a few more breathless laughs through her teeth. Shaking her head, she cleared her throat and crossed her arms again as he grinned at her. Squishing her mouth into a thin line, she reached up and scratched her nose and nodded. ”That would be awesome. Thank you. I’d call my aunt but I’m afraid she’d try to convince me dresses are comfortable and practical for every day life.”She could only imagine Elsa buying her an entire new wardrobe with absolutely nothing she could actually wear on a day to day basis included. Motioning for Malachai to lead her back to the dorms, Vera couldn’t help but smile to herself. Maybe she wouldn’t struggle too much with making new friends after all. template by Sammy @ Adox 2.0

just let me get lost August 31, 2016 He could see the battle she went through over running and was glad to see the way she tried to hide her smile at his assurance he knew girls that ran. If it had only been men, he wouldn't have mentioned them. She was in his house after all, and he would do what he could to make her life easier. A slight smile crossed Malachai’s lips as she moved to get back on the sidewalk, taking care to not brush past him. And then all of a sudden she was laughing and her hand grabbed onto his arm to so she didn't fall. He shifted quickly so he didn't end up taking them both down, only letting go when he was sure her slippered feet were firmly on solid ground. And she was still laughing. He was pretty sure she even had tears in her eyes. Malachai started laughing. He couldn't help it. Vera’s laughter was contagious and he rubbed his chin softly, trying to hide his laughter. The way she pursed her lips into a straight line did absolutely nothing to stop the grin. ”It's really not a problem. Especially considering your shoes seem to want to kill you. Or the mud, I'm not sure which.” He chuckled as he lead the way. ”Dresses would be even more impractical than your slippers. And a combination of the both I think would prove disastrous for you.”They walked through the castle, pointing out a few of the classes and rooms as they passed them before they got to the tower and gave the password. ”Okay...I'll be right back so I can grab my stuff from my room. And you might want some ...new slippers. “ His blue eyes looked down at the mud splattered things before chuckling to himself and heading to get his things. template by Sammy @ Adox 2.0

butterflies around the flame August 31, 2016 Vera glanced down at her slippers with a smirk before she tilted her chin up just enough to peek at him over the top of his sunglasses. She pointed her finger at her own face, clearly gesturing toward the sunglasses as she smirked. ”Mind if I hold onto these until I get my own?”When he graciously allowed her to, Vera gave him a double thumbs up and then turned and made her up to the girl’s dorms. She didn’t need to change, but she needed her wallet. Elsa had given her a credit card of sorts when she’d first come to Switzerland. It was charmed to take the proper money out of the proper account depending on if she shopped in a magical town or in a nomaj/muggle town, and in the proper currency too. It kind of felt like her aunt was trying to buy her over, but Vera needed some clothes to get her through the next few weeks at least until Alex could ship the rest of her stuff here. Jerk. Sliding the card into her pocket, Vera was about to spin away from her bed when she looked down at her slippers. Right. Taking her wand from her pocket, she held it out and flicked it toward her shoes. With a wince, she glanced down to double check her work. Her wand could be a little finicky sometimes… But it seemed to cooperate with her today. Moving away from her bed, Vera skipped down the steps to the common room and jumped the last three stairs to the bottom in a childlike manner that startled even herself. Looking up and meeting Malachai’s eyes, she grinned sheepishly and straightened up; clearing her throat as she crossed her wrists behind her back and rocked back on her heels. ”Uhm, when I was younger I used to not be able to jump more than two stairs, so…”What on earth did that explain? She seemed to think it was good enough to cover herself as she pushed his sunglasss up higher on her face and cleared her throat with a soft cough. template by Sammy @ Adox 2.0

feels like i got wings August 31, 2016 He nodded at her question before heading up to his room. Picking up another pair of sunglasses wouldn't be a problem for him. As he opened the door to his room, Artemis appeared, snaking around his ankles. Smiling at his cat, he leaned down to pet her before grabbing his phone, wallet, and regular glasses. It took him no time at all to find his way back down to the common room, Artemis still following along with him. When he reappeared, she still had not come down. He leaned against a chair, fingers running through his cat's fur as he pondered over the turn his day had taken. Malachai had originally planned to pretty much do nothing. Now he was on an apparent shopping trip into town. Not that he was complaining in the slightest. His thoughts were interrupted as he could hear Vera coming down the stairs. Looking up, he watched her jump the last few stairs in an apparent bit of excitement. Her blue eyes met his own over the top of his sunglasses and he couldn't help his amused expression. " Only two stairs when you were younger?" He gave her an expression of surprise. " You are definitely showing yourself up. I think you'll be ready for our stair jumping competition in no time." She suddenly seemed to be embarrassed and he chuckled softly. The way she rocked on her feet and coughed slightly made her more endearing. " Shall we then m'lady?" He made a dramatic little bow. " There is a village not too far, but if they don' 'ave much, I can Apparate us somewhere else." With a last pat on Artemis, he held out his arm to the dark haired girl. Because why not? template by Sammy @ Adox 2.0
