Little line of words here Madeline hadn't left her classroom and office since the classes had ended for the evening. She could have, of course, gone to go and find something to entertain her, but she had wound up settling with a rather good book, and was draped in her chair, her heels set on the floor.
In the stark silence of her classroom and office, Madeline had, much unbeknownst to herself, taken to reading aloud. As if some subconscious part of her were offended by the quiet hanging in the air.
"I resisted all the way: a new thing for me, and a circumstance which greatly strengthened the bad opinion Bessie and Miss Abbot were disposed to entertain of me. The fact is, I was a trifle beside myself; or rather OUT of myself, as the French would say: I was conscious that a moment's mutiny had already rendered me liable to strange penalties, and, like any other rebel slave, I felt resolved, in my desperation, to go all lengths."
She continued on for a spell until she heard a quit shuffling in the doorway to the classroom. Quickly setting the book down and pulling her heels back on, she slipped out into the classroom to see who her quiet visitor was.

It wasn't as often anymore that Magnus visited his alma mater. There was very little that the school could offer him so it rarely crossed his mind. Until recently he was satisfied with the way things were being run. Satisfied enough to not spend much thought on it. But the appearance of the so called Faceless had him very busy in the recent days. Those in the ministry were worried of an attack, or a large display of magic to send them all back into the Witch trials. And the public was mixed between those of the same mind as the ministry, and those who thought integration was necessary. Mostly those of mixed heritage or muggleborn, as far as he could tell. Not as many purebloods were into the idea. Though he was sure that had to do with blood purity. There was a line being drawn. Though slowly now, he knew that it would come to a head eventually. And he wanted to be as prepared as he could be.
When he'd entered the Transfiguration classroom he could hear a voice softly from the office. At first he wasn't sure what she was saying, then he realized it was a novel. As soon as he realized her voice stopped. He hadn't been hiding his steps, so he wasn't bothered.
"Miss Hargrave, it's a pleasure to see you again." He was acquainted with all of the professors from previous years. Though he didn't stop by as often, he did make sure to meet the staff. Having a good relationship with the school helped to reduce as many incidents with the muggles, as he had found.

Madeline gave a soft smile as she saw who it was, followed of course by a respectful nod before she gestured him in. "It's a pleasure to see you again as well, Mr. Svennson. It's been too long since your last visit. "
She moved through the classroom and flicked her wand at a little kettle in her office as she walked into it, gesturing once more for him to join her. "I hope you don't mind spiced chai. It's become somewhat of a craving as of late. It's delightful with a stick of cinnamon." She'd found him to be agreeable company in the past, and given how rarely he came by the school, she was admittedly rather curious as to his sudden arrival. But first there was the matter of not being rude, and she summoned up a chair for him before she sat in her own.
"I do hope everything is alright. I don't recall any recent muggle incidents, which, hopefully, means you aren't here on any dreadful business."

Magnus followed her with his eyes for a moment before stepping forward to take a seat. "Cinnamon is perfectly fine with me." The voice that escaped his lips was soft and calm. Low, authoritative, and in control of the situation. His striking gaze never left her as she moved. "But whatever you're offering would be lovely."
Her suggestion almost made him let out a chuckle. "Not at all, Miss Hargrave." While there were several professors that he knew at the school very few of them seemed as trustworthy of the task he was asking. It left no harm for himself, regardless of the outcome. But he would prefer a success than anything else. "No doubt, I trust you have heard of this group who seems to find themselves important. The so called Faceless." Their self importance irritated him. "The group who is claiming that muggle and wizard should not be separate entities, but one?"

Madeline pulled out two little mugs, dropping a stick of cinnamon into each before she poured the chai overtop, letting the spice seep into it before she brought them over. "I'm offering the cinnamon." She smiled as she set it down in front of him.
"Well that is certainly some pleasant news. I know now and again the students can be a little careless with their wand waving, but thankfully and apparently, not outside the grounds and village." She recalled an incident a few years back where a pair of students had decided to go off and duel outside the school grounds and past the village. From what she had heard, it had taken an irritating amount of time for the Ministry to sort out all of the muggles who had seen their little..escapade.
"I have, yes. Interesting little theory of theirs. " She smirked as she took a sip. The comment by no means was one of acceptance, but more in a disbelieving manner. "I can understand their goal, and where they're coming from, but honestly. It simply isn't feasible. The fact that we have an entire branch of the Ministry solely dedicated to any instances dealing with muggles should be plain enough evidence that any attempt to combine our worlds would end in one of their silly little muggle wars."
She had never, of course, voiced this opinion to anyone in the school. Opinions on the Ministry and the Faceless were ever touchy subjects these days, and she valued her career far more than any friendly banter over ideals and politics

Taking the mug from her, he sat back in his seat and listened. Nodding at the appropriate times. For as much as he spoke, there was a lot of silence in his life. Mostly listening and digesting what was being said. Paying attention to the subtle nuances that meant others were being dishonest. Something he was almost positive he would not have to worry about with Madeline.
"I'm glad to hear that." Magnus took a sip of his chai. "I had a feeling that would be your train of thought. That is why I am here today." As though it wasn't obvious. "Of course the ministry has been doing its best to keep the public from suspecting an uprising. And so far there has been very little physical evidence of such an event. But to be cautious I was hoping I could enlist your assistance."
Magnus set the mug down, "I know that young minds are quite impressionable. I was hoping you would be willing to keep an eye out for me."

She quieted as he spoke, taking a sip and smiling softly as his assumption was correct. Madeline had always taken great care to keep her opinions on certain matters vague at best, but with some people, there was simply no hiding things.
"I've noticed as much. The Faceless are barely more than a whisper and rumor so far. And thankfully so, lest it blow to the level and panic and chaos that things were in during the Death Eater debacles. Merlin knows no one needs a repeat of that mess." While people creating chaos was bad enough, the mass panic and side choosing and all of that nonsense that was left in the wake of such acts, could be just as destructive, if not more so. People wanted to feel safe. Take that feeling of security away and the devolved into near animals in nature.
"Oh, of course. I would rather assist than be useless in the matter if I'm able to help." she folded her hands in her lap as she listened, not mulling it over very long at all as she was quick to decide. "That won't be a problem at all." she smiled. "I'm actually in quite a good position to do so, so if I hear anything, I'll send you word. Do you have a preference as to how? Owl, phone?"

"After what happened with He Who Must Not Be Named, the Ministry tries to take any threat seriously. We cannot abide any more threats to Wizarding kind. While muggleborn magic is revealing itself at a higher rate since the end of the War, it is not enough if we get ourselves into trouble." He frowned deeply at the idea. "Very old families died for no good reason before, we do not need magical blood to be spilled for someones silly ideals."
The mere idea that they should reveal themselves to the entire muggle world sounded absolutely disastrous to him. He had read their history. He had lived with their people. And he knew how muggles reacted to anyone different than themselves. "I would be indebted to you for your help, Miss Hargrave. This is the name of an associate of mine whom you can owl." He pulled a paper from his pocket and slipped it over to her. "It's best if we keep things more impersonal while they're just rumors."
