Classes were finished for the day, and as per usual, Eric was already at the Metal shop on the grounds, working away in the forge. The smell of molten metal and burning wood filled the air around him and he felt at home. Smithing was his paradise, his relaxation, and often his greatest frustration when the metal did not cooperate as he wished it too.
Today he was working on a helm. Hammering the pieces out carefully, getting the right rounded edges he saw in his head. All of his works followed the same theme. Arthurian. Always Arthurian with Eric Rosier. Todays was no different. It was modelled after a few of the nights helms he had seen in a recent movie. Though, he did strive to make it more authentic as he always did.
As the hammer clanged against the metal, and the hiss of red hot steel in water overtook the forge area, he was in his own little world. Until something else captured his sense for a brief moment. A familiar smell. An all too familiar smell, and one he had nearly forgotten. The peat moss wasn't out of place, but lilac and wisteria..he couldn't recall where the familiarity of it came from, nor why he knew the smell, but it was enough to make him look up as he pulled a different piece of helm from the flames to hammer.
The hammer stopped mid swing as he caught sight of a tiny blonde. He had been completely unaware that anyone else had been there until he had seen her and for a moment he was thrown off, giving her a small wave and nearly hitting himself in the head with the blacksmiths hammer.

Classes were over! For the day that was and she had a bounce in her step. Probably more than certain Ezra was out doing her Quidditch things. It wasn't that Ashlin didn't have any interest in it, she just wasn't super sporty, but she absolutely cheered for Ezzie when she was playing! That was a definite! So, since it was a seemingly short day for lessons today she was going to explore. And perhaps try to find that Arthurian Rosier boy. A smile spread across her lips as she thought about Eric Rosier. It has been a full year she didn't see him and man, was that rough! If there was one place that handsome boy would be it would most definitely be in a forge or perhaps digging with Evan, and since she saw Evan on her way out she had only one goal in mind.
The quiet but perfect sound of a clank reached her very soul and her heart started to beat heavily in her chest. If there was a certain sound that could make every fiber of your being scream, it was this one. At least for Ashlin. The sounds of the hammer hitting steel against an anvil was all that she needed to remember him. It was the sound of perfection. Ashlin truly believed that Eric Rosier was the perfect gentleman. Every word that came from the boy's mouth was sweet and caring. (so she thought) And he would do anything for his brother. Of that she was fully aware. Like Ezra, Ashlin had taken to the side of becoming a healer. Not like nurse for St. Mungos, no. More like home remedies and care. Ashlin didn't really have that many goals in mind, though last year she decided to try her hand at hand making chain mail, but sometimes her attention span just... wasn't.
As she rounded the corner, the plinking getting louder now, she smiled as she saw him and he her. That was the Eric Rosier that she remember. Moving the small stone wall that surrounded the forge area, she leaned over and smiled to him. "I know that the hammer is a natural extremity for you, but you might not want to hit yourself in the head with it." A giggle filled the area around him as she moved to climb up and sit on the waist height wall, well, Eric waist height, more like Ashlin face height, though not really, she is short, but not that short. The red of her dress laid out on either side of her as she sat, patting down the front softly as she watched him. Her eyes moving to the helm that he was working on. "Ah! You're working on a helm! I've been reading a lot of Lore over the summer and last year, I'm not an expert by any means, but... wow. Once your done, can I try it on?"

He had nearly, so very nearly that he felt the cool of the metal brisk against his forehead, knocked himself out. He really did forget sometimes that the hammer was in fact, not part of his limb. And doubly so when there was something to distract him, which was in itself an incredibly rare occurrence. Red just...happened to be a very distracting color for Eric..and apparently the smell of wisteria and lilac as well.
He chuckled softly, and this time set the hammer down before he went and embarrassed himself by bludgeoning himself in some manner. Which really was not in his list of things to do.
Pink flushed over his cheeks at her comment, as any compliments to his work were something he was quite happy to hear. "Ah..yes, yes I am. It's modeled after one of the movies, but I took some creative liberty in making it look more authentic. I plan to gouge out a few areas to make it look more battle worn. No sense in having pristine helm afterall." he grinned, and cleared his throat as he realized he'd gone off on a small tangent.
He couldn't quite place it but something about her seemed to...incredibly familiar. Like she was someone he ought to know. That he did know. "I..I'm sorry, but. I feel as though I know you from somewhere. You sm...seem so very familiar. " He knew her somehow, he was certain of it. And then it hit him, quite literally as a breeze blew in gently to the forge, and he was met with the smell of moss, and flora. It was the same smell that had always lingered in the dungeons when he would wake up from one of his blackouts.
"This...this is going to sound quite odd, and I apologize but...do you by chance know how to make lemon poppyseed muffins?"

There was no way to deny the fact that she absolutely loved the way he laughed, and the way his cheeks tinged whenever someone compliemented his work. Eric Rosier had always been passionate about his work and that was something she admired. Dedicated to make his work as authentic as possible and always on top of it. A smile crept across her lips as he ran off on a tangent about the helm and she couldn't help but adore every single second of it. Returning his grin with a smile of her own. This was Eric Rosier, the love of her life.
"I seem familiar?" The words were quiet off her lips and she watched as he thought on it for a few moments. Again her lips curled up into a smile as he mentioned her absolute favorite item to bake. It was something that her mother had taught her at a very young age because her own father absolutely loved them. "I know how to make a lot of baked goods."
Ash stayed put on the small wall and looked up at him. "But yes, Lemon Poppyseed are my specialty. Why do you ask?"

Eric had all but completely ignored the pieces of helm sitting on the anvil as he looked at her. It wasn't her face that was familiar though he couldn't seem to tear his gaze from it, nor the way her smile lit up her face so nicely. But it was her presence, the...air of her that felt as though he'd known it for sometime, and that things seemed...comfortable as she sat there.
Normally, Eric couldn't stand for people to linger or talk when he was working, but with her, it was very much the opposite. "You do. " He nodded quietly. Her first answer clarified nothing for him, leaving his question unanswered still. But then came her admittance. The threads that stitched together the unseen pieces of his blackouts.
It had been her that had kept him company the whole time, that had left him to wake beside a muffin and with his bloodied knuckles bandaged with care. It was her that had been the biggest mystery to him in all his time at Hogwarts.
"I've been looking everywhere for you, you know." he smiled softly.

Ashlin locked her ankles about each other and swung her legs lightly as she sat perced on the low wall. The realization in his face brought her mind back to the memories and long nights of tending to him. When someone had wronged him, when his brother was harmed or harrassed, when he just couldn't take it anymore, she was always there to help pick up the pieces. Ash had known for a long time that Eric Rosier was the one for her. She had known that since her first year at Hogwarts. Though he was a Slytherin and she a Hufflepuff, there was no denying that feeling. Whoever said love at first sight didn't exist was a liar and they didn't have a fragment of a heart in their empty chest.
"You're quite familiar to me as well. Actually... I came here looking for you." Ash looked down at her hands as she spoke and then back up to him as he spoke. Heart skipping a beat as he mentioned he'd been looking every where for her. Ashlin's own cheeks decided to turn a soft pink. "You have? I thought... I thought that maybe you'd want nothing to do with me since I could've quite possibly caused you humility for caring for you."

Eric felt a bit foolish at his admittance once he heard it out loud. He was worried that it had come of far more...creepy than he meant and that was no way for him to be coming off. Not to a lady.
Casting off his gloves and setting them aside, he sat turned his full attention to her, as if she hadn't already captured it in the first place, and blinked as she said she had been looking for him. He was surprised, and happily, he'd admit. He had spent a great deal of time trying to find out who his mystery caretaker had been while he was at Hogwarts, but always his searching turned up nothing, and like the sun always rose, after his next blackout, there would be the same lingering smell, and another muffin.
As her thought reached his ears he looked to her, shaking his head in mild shock. "Humility? No...no that wasn't it at all. I was...grateful, actually. That someone cared enough to worry about me when I couldn't be bothered to even care about myself. All this time I've wanted nothing more than to know who you are.."

Those hands were something that she could never forget. The rough and calloused pads, the fingers that worked with great dexterity. Everything curve of his palm and ever dip. Countless times she had spent wrapping his hands in whatever fabric she could find. If it was a rush she would tear cloth from her own clothing, if she had been expecting a black out she would prepare accordingly, but always she was baking and usually over a weekend.
The fact that he had appreciated what she had done caused her great relief. The way that he had always been searching for her. Everything. this whole situation seemed like it had come straight from a dream and she slipped from the wall, fluffing out her skirt ever so softly to remove whatever debris was still hanging on for dear life.
"I am me, Eric." Ash couldn't help but give him a soft grin as she moved to stand a little closer to him. The height difference very obvious in that moment as she looked up at him. "You spent all of your time making sure that your brother was okay. I felt that perhaps you needed someone to be strong for you. So... here I am. Ashlin O'Mara. And I'm going to tell you that last year was absolutely the worst without you there at Hogwarts."

Everything about her seemed to fit. He'd spent countless hours trying to imagine the person who had cared so kindly for him, but never could he think an image up, not one that fit. But there she was, and she fit so perfectly it couldn't have been anyone else.
As she slipped down off the ledge, instantly his hands went out to help her down, because Eric was and always would be a gentleman. It was then that he realized how suddenly clammy his hands were and for the life of him, he couldn't pin down why, though the answer was obvious enough, it escaped him like a fool.
He swallowed as he looked down to her, grinning because now he not only had a face to his mysterious caretaker, but her name as well. He waited for her to finish before her took one of her hands in his and smiled, leaning down to kiss the top of her hand gently. "Then thank you, Ashlin O'mara for being there for me. And I'm very sorry to have left, though I'm sure your skirts fared a little better with me gone. " he laughed.

There was no questioning when her fingers slipped into his palm. These were the same hands that she had tended to. The same hands that she repaired on countless occasions. The same boy she had felt oddly drawn to. He hadn't changed at all, aside from being a little more gentle. Before Evan gained his memory she remembered how cold and quick to anger Eric used to be. She loved him then, so this wasn't going to change a thing.
As he kissed the top of her hand, she couldn't help but curtsy as a thank you in return. "You do not need to thank me. Eric Rosier. And my skirts are replaceble, they may have fared a bit better, but they were also a bit more lonely." Ashlin couldn't contain her own giggle as she looked up at him when he stood. "But now I am here, and I will be there for you once again. With tar like coffee and lemon poppyseed muffins. But now that you know it is me. I may have to try some other form a dessert on you. How do you feel about lemon bars?"
