Bianca was in the middle of a battle.
Admittedly, it was against herself. But it was a battle nonetheless. Her dark brown eyes looked over the Muggle chess board in front of her as she debated her next move against herself. It had been a good game so far. She'd forced herself to consider moves she hadn't looked at from the other side before and a few moments she had even managed to stump herself.
With the game on a low table in one of the courtyards, she tilted her head as she considered her next move. The concrete under her knees dug into her but she ignored it as her fingers reached out and slowly moved a knight, capturing a pawn.
Gracefully, she stood and adjusted her skirt before moving to the other side to counter herself.
It had been a few days since her last game, and that one had been so rudely interrupted by one of her housemates. Hence why she was outside in a more secluded courtyard. Actually, she had been a bit disappointed that her lie to Celestina hadn't resulted in her friend trying to rip into Penelope. Maybe she could find a way to embellish it more so it worked out for her.
Pushing a piece of her loose brown hair out of her face, she smiled to herself softly before reaching out and moving a pawn.

OCTOBER 17 - AFTERNOON
There was too much going on, and the dance was getting ever closer. Not that she didn't care, but she needed to step away from the books for more than five seconds. Adeline stepped outside free of the burden from her bag and into a courtyard. That was when she heard the slight sound of pieces moving only to pause in her steps to see a girl hunched over a chess board. Chess was a game of the mind, something that any Corvus could enjoy, but this girl.... Bianca? That was her name wasn't it? She was playing against herself.
Before entering the courtyard entirely Adeline pushed back her bleach blonde hair making certain it was out of her face before watching as Bianca moved the pawn. Countless times Adeline had done something similar. Clearing her throat she moved into the closed off area and took a seat on the bench, watching her patiently.

Every movement she made on her board was graceful. She hated wasted movement. When her hands weren't on a piece, they were sitting patiently in her lap as she looked over her board, back straight and dark eyes observant.
Her mind was well into her game when she heard someone clearing their throat.
Biting back the retort on her lips, she pulled her eyes from the board for a moment to see who decide she needed their attention. It was a Corvus girl. Something with an 'A' if she recalled...Ashley? Adelaide? No, that was close but not quite right. She raised an eyebrow at the girl.
"Did you need something?" Bianca's voice was ridiculously soft when she actually spoke. It amusingly went with her sweet an innocent appearance. At least it amused her. What didn't amuse her though was being interrupted. How many times can I claim people are hitting on Ansel before Celestina gets suspicious...

That wasn't supposed to gain the attention of the girl before her, but it did. Adeline sat, her legs crossed at the ankles as she looked on. Catching the girl's look Adeline raised her own brow in return and just shook he head.
"Nothing actually. Just watching you play. So. Continue on." It wasn't her intention to interrupt. Rather than enjoy the silence around them. "Rather than playing on your own, once you're done with this game I'm rather skilled in chess. If you'd like a challenge." It wasn't supposed to come out all brag like. Not at all, but if it came across that way she wasn't about to change it up.

If Bianca had known that the Corvus girl hadn't intended for her throat clearing to gain her attention, she probably would have told the other girl to switch houses for such an idiotic thought. There is no way for a person to not notice a sudden noise in an altogether silent situation.
If she had wanted an opponent, she'd have went and found one.
Suppressing the eye roll she wanted to do, she looked back at her game. Her fingers trailed over the bruises on her wrist as her sleeve fell back slightly before she continued on her game. Her mind went back to ignoring the other girl, but her drive was gone. The game wasn't as good as it had been going now and she finished it with little pleasure.
Pulling out the wand she waved it out the board transfiguring it into a wéiqí board and pieces. "Come then." She didn't bother looking up to see what Addie was going to do.

Still she sat there. Reading her ever single move down to every single movement of her eyes. No, of course. Adeline strummed her fingers on her thigh, looking forward. Quickly losing interest in the demeanor. Impatience in the way she moved quickly, the lackluster shift Bianca used to finish off her game. Annoyance.
Instead of joining Bianca for the game, she brought her own leg up, knocking the board slightly. Pulling out a book, she cocked a brow and shook her head. "Pretty sure that I said Chess, as in traditional, like you were playing. I've no interest in Go. Unless you're too fucking stupid to understand the words that were coming from my mouth."
The creak of the spine sounded softly through the courtyard as Adeline pried it open and began to read without giving the girl so much of a glance.

Her dark eyes looked up at the Corvus girl, mild surprise on her face. "No, I'm aware you said chess," her voice was still soft and kind like it usually was. "I was going to see if you would like to play, or learn, Go instead." She looked down at the board as it was bumped. "I apologise if I somehow offended you.
