The solace of solitude. The sun was barely a whisper on the horizon, the sky still cloaked in dusky tones as Klaudia walked to the lake. The castle laying dark and silent behind her, and not a soul was to be seen. She had made certain of that.
While normally she wouldn't have woken so early, she needed a moment to herself. A moment unhindered by prying eyes and noisy people. Though the room of requirement had served to aid in that, lately it seemed every trip she took to it, no matter how late, someone always managed to interrupt.
With a final glance around, she withdrew her wand, touching the tip of it to the waters edge and watching as a freeze blossomed over the top of the water. As the final wave of the ice grew over the still waves, she pulled on her skates, and with a flick of her wand, soft and somber music hung in the air over the lake.
She took a step onto the ice and within a moment, she was gliding across it. Her personality could be harsh, and cold. Her mannerisms equal to that effect, but on the ice, every move spoke of a more delicate person. Each graceful spin revealing volumes of a person in herself that she suppressed, that she hid so guardedly.
The wind blew over her as she sped with the tempo of the music, her breath catching as she pushed off the ice and into the air, landing into a spin before gliding across the ice once more, her closed eyes leaving her unaware of the figure standing at the edge of the frozen lake.

i wake at the first cringe of morning and my heart has already sinned As always, four in the morning came at the same time everyday. There was a schedule that needed to be followed and rules that needed to be in place. Voluntis had the same set of motions to achieve every single morning no matter the weather. Quickly he tied his trainers onto his feet, and since it was Switzerland, there needed to be some sort of cold protection. Skin tight running pants with a pair of shorts over top. That is usually what it was, unless of course it was snowing, but today it was just cold. Lucky him.
Now that the 8th year was ready for his morning run, he moved down from the Corvus Common Room and outside. The trails near the lake were his favorite, especially in the stark morning before the sun rose over the rim of the Earth. And there was absolutely no one to bother him as he cleared his thoughts for the day. As usual there was a thought that ran through his mind every morning and it was one that lay on the precipice of curiosity. This thought has haunted him for years considering that he never really knew who his father was and oh how he wanted to.
The sounds of a haunting song filled his ears as he shifted direction. It was lovely, the piano and the strings working in perfect harmony and that's when he came to a tree to see a sight more beautiful than he could have ever imagined. Slipping a moment he gripped a tree and just watched quietly. Mind focusing on the composition of the melody. It was quite sad, but he couldn't help but fall in love with it. Volu had a thing for this sort of music, not only could he handle a cello, but he could relate. Though it was haunting it was beautiful. Just like the girl spinning on the icy surface of the lake. Shyness in the sunrise. Dia spun and twirled with the music. It was one of her own pieces, so she could navigate the notes like the back of her hand with no pause to try and 'get a feel for the music'. The piano played by herself, and the strings accompanying it charmed to play with her. It was one she was incredibly proud of, and she was the only one to hear it. Or so she had thought.
While she had thought she was entirely and unequivocally alone, the feeling of eyes lingering on her was something she couldn't deny. But it was not the usual sense of being watched. Not the eerie, and uncomfortable stare of being ogled by some person. It was gentler, nonthreatening.
She tried quite willfully to let it be, to ignore the feeling. But the more she she tried not to notice, the more the feeling grew, until she could no longer pretend it wasn't there. Opening her eyes as she spun she found no one, no one until she had gone nearly full circle, and there he stood. Gripping a tree and blending almost perfectly in the dark of the near dawn.
Though she had felt eyes on her, she hadn't truly expected someone to be there. She had expected it to simply be her paranoia and nothing more, and so the sudden shock of finding a person there had been just enough to break her focus, her skate wobbling in the spin until she went cascading across the ice, gasping quietly at the twinge in her ankle.
To say she was embarrassed didn't begin to cover it then. Not only had he seen her but he had just witnessed her much less than graceful collapse on the ice. Her cheeks burned, and her ankle throbbed, and she debated for a moment just staying right there and letting the lake swallow her up.

There was no doubt in his mind that she was positively elegant, but he hadn't exactly been watching her as he tried to catch his breath after the two miles. Eyes closed as he let the music sink through his skin and bones, taking him back to a not so distant time when his mother's pimp had bought him his first cello. In an instant there was a soft and subtle shift, as if she were looking for him and his heart had thunked softly in his chest as he opened his eyes to see her.
She wobbled once she saw him and he knew in a flash that it was going to be drastic and damaging. Voluntis watched as she quickly went down, hitting the ice and skidding in a not so graceful motion. It was cold, and to think of her sitting there in the near center of the lake after having so gracelessly twisting a joint. Volu pushed from the bark and started down the small incline and stepped onto the seemingly stable ice to go help her.
"I... didn't mean to startle you, I was attracted by the music." Vol chuckled as his feet slipped beneath him very slightly, if it could hold her weight it may have been able to hold his. "Really, I didn't even know that you were here. I hope you're not hurt too badly." Popping his knuckle gently the Corvus boy held his hand out to her. "Please, at least let me help you to shore. I feel terrible."

Shyness in the sunrise. Dia had to maintain concentration, despite the pulsing pain in her ankle, or else she would not only have that injury, but the ice would disappear and she would be both doubly embarrassed, as well as quite possibly drowned.
She was doing quite a good job of keeping her focus until she saw him push off and start moving toward her. Her heart wound up somewhere in her throat and while instinct posited to flee, she couldn't exactly do that. Neither could she manage to find the words to tell him to just leave her there.
But while she couldn't find her words, he had managed to find his own and for a brief moment she found herself thinking about how...rather lovely his voice sounded. A thought followed by a small amount of inward scolding and a shocked look before she swallowed and looked to him as he made it to her.
"N..No, it's fine. I mean, I was out in public so...makes sense someone would be around. I just didn't think it would be someone this early. " she blamed the pinkness in her cheeks from the cold and certainly not from the fact that he liked her music. As he held out his hand to her she swallowed and moved so the jagged front of her skate dug into the ice so they didn't wind crashing down and stood carefully, trying quite hard to hide the wince as she put weight on her injured ankle.
"Really, you..you don't have to keep apologizing. I don't think it's broken so..no harm no foul." She smiles softly.

Voluntis' hand was still outstretched to her and when she didn't take it, he moved and threw her arm over his shoulders to help her stand proper. "I cannot help it. But really you shouldn't be putting any weight on that until you get it looked at." There was sincerity in his voice. Something that most people lacked and it wasn't just because she was a pretty girl. Voluntis was genuinely nice to nearly everyone he had met. Giving them the benefit of the doubt that they were indeed worthy of his respect.
Moving slowly toward the shore he couldn't help but laugh softly. "There, safe and sound. And for the record I am always awake this early. I didn't expect to come across anyone either, but I am glad that I did. Your music is lovely and from what I saw prior to your routine, you're quite fantastic on the ice."

Dia nodded softly, holding onto him as he helped her, very carefully bunny hopping to the shore on one skate until they reached it. Not only was she embarrassed about being seen and her music heard, but also the fact that she had fallen and actually injured herself. She was pink in the cheeks like no tomorrow at all of that and the very distracting way he smiled.
"Thank you. I had pretty much the idea as far as not coming across anyone but..well...her you are apparently. she laughed softly. Again her cheeks tinged pink as he complimented her music, as well as her skating. She hadn't expected to wind up so tongue tied over it as she tried to think of something else to say besides thank you again. "I've had a lot of practice." she smiled. "Even though the little fall back there suggests otherwise." she sat and began untying her skates carefully. "I'm Klaudia, by the way."

"You don't need to thank me at all. I'm just doing what any normal human being should be doing." Wasn't that the truth? Or were normal people not usually this kind? The way she hobbled to the shore was evidence enough that she needed assistance. Practice or not, that fall was pretty hard.
Vol sort of caught himself staring at her while she began to untie her skates. Feeling like the reason she fell was his fault entirely. "I wouldn't say that it was little," he crouched before her, "from what I saw it was pretty bad. Here, let me help you shouldn't be bending your ankle like that." Voluntis moved her hands from her skates and finished untying them for her before slipping them off gently. "It's nice to meet you Klaudia. I'm Voluntis, but you can just call me Vol or Volu. Whatever you fancy."

"Well, there aren't a lot of normal human beings around usually. Though the ones who like to point and laugh at injury are teeming, I hear. " she laughed as she sat down. It wasn't incredbly sore, but trying to walk on it did make her wince. Something she tried to hide, but apparently had not succeeded in doing as he moved her hands.
Klaudia watched as his fingers moved over the laces. She was one to refuse assistance and perservere, but she got the feeling refusing wouldn't actually get her anywhere except for her sitting there more defeatedly while he undid her skates. So as she sat there, her gaze shifted from his hands to his face, a soft smile creeping up as she looked at him. There was a sweet shyness to him, and the way a lock of his hair kept falling forward as he..
She blinked and quickly looked to the left at the ground. 'What the fuck Klaudia?!' she shook her head a little before she looked back to him and nodded. "It's nice to meet you too Vol. And it's Dia..if you want. "

Voluntis was none the wiser in the fact that Kladuia was watching him work over her skates. A small blip here and there as he reached revealed scars over his skin until his jacket moved back and covered them. Some of the wounds were more fresh than the others, and once he was done pulling the skates from her feet, he moved to inspect her ankle carefully. "Absolutely, but those are the ones we should definitely forget exist. They're not worth our time." Voluntis spoke in a town near identical to David Pierce, very cool and uncaring about those that didn't actually matter to him.
Looking back up at her Voluntis only offered her one of his most genuine smiles. "Dia it is then." Chuckling her moved so that he could easily pull out his wand. "Luckily it's not broken, but... Episkey." Waiting a moment he moved and looked over it again. "How does it feel now? It might still be a little sore, but it should be tolerable."
