FAQ
QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
Can I use my own face as a character play by?
Afraid not. We would really prefer if your play bys were a celebrity of some sort whether it be an actor/actress, model, or musician.
What if I wanted to make a character whos species is already capped?
Then you can contact one of the Admins and petition for why your character should be that species, and an exception may be made.
Can I have more than one character?
Of course! But we do ask that you only make as many as you can handle and keep active. So if you can keep 5 active, then make 5. If you can keep 15 active, then make 15, and so on!
What is 8th year?
8th year is an optional extra year when your character finishes their 7th year for thesis work, shadowing teachers in the school if you want to come on as a student teacher or intend to teach somewhere in the future, studying a single specific field if they want, and things like that. 8th year is, to put it basically, an optional year for a more college-esque education.
Why do students only start at 5th year and not younger?
You may have noticed in many character histories, that students attended Hogwarts, Ilvermorny, or another school before Beauregard. This is because Beauregard is a specialty school, open only to those ages 5th year and above, and who have excelled in magical academia.
I'm not really feeling one of my characters play bys anymore, can I change it?
Sure thing, but try to limit how often that happens. Simply contact an Admin and let them know you'll be changing 'character names' face so we can keep the Face Claims accurate. Once you change a face though, the previous face can be used by anyone.
How closely does this site follow to the Potterverse Lore?
Pretty closely! Everything that happened in the movies and the books has happened in this verse up to the point of Shacklebolt becoming the Minister. At that point, things went AU. The Death Eaters still were disbanded and put away, but the Minister of Magic is not our friendly and understanding Kingsley.
Do I have to do the sorting quiz?
Yes. While the Houses are similar to Hogwarts Houses, we want the placements to be accurate for the characters rather than where the player wants them to be. It's a fun quiz though!
What are the site wide plots?
The site wide plots are plots and events that further the story or Beauregard, in which everyone can participate!
Are they mandatory?
No, but while you don't have to participate in a site wide plot, you and your characters will have to abide by and acknowledge any verse changes that came from said plots. For example if the ministry was blown up, your characters can't go parading around the ministry once the plot involving it has been finished and closed.
Are sex scenes allowed on the board?
No, that violates the Proboards Terms of Service. However if one is integral to a plot, you can simply state that something of that nature took place, but do not go into any further detail. Any threads that lead up to a sexual instance, must be carried out via messaging and not be posted.
I'm new to Proboards/Rp boards, how do I register everything?
Easy! You can have one main account which would be your name or handle, thats used for when you have multiple characters and want all your plotters/shippers in one spot, and for other users to send you messages concerning your characters. Ex: Your name or handle is Susan. So you make an account with the name Susan, post that account in the Main Accounts sign ups, and then any other accounts you make are for characters.
As for character accounts, you register with their first name, and then once you have made the account, go to edit profile, personal, and change the Display Name to your characters full name. That account is for that character only.
Can my character be in more than one thread at a time?
Of course! If we only let you have a character in one thread at a time, that would severely limit interactions, and we want a whole lot of interactions
We use what we call liquid time, which you can have Jane Doe in multiple threads at once, so long as they aren't on the same day, and preferably not before any of your current threads. Meaning if you have a thread on one day, but make one that takes place a few days or a week before that, you will have to label that one a Past thread to avoid any paradoxes.
So if Jane Doe is in one thread that takes place on a weekend, and you want to make another thread with her thats in a class or during the next week, thats totally fine. If it helps you to keep track of your dates, you can add the in verse date of that thread in the notes section of the threading template.
If my partner and I have finished a thread and won't be adding anymore posts to it, what do we do?
If you have finished a thread, you can either add a final post to it saying that it's finished, or add finished to the title of the thread and one of the lovely Admins or Mods will bump it on over to the archives.
