Pocket-sized Hurricane
Margot raked her fingers through her hair as she sat on the floor. When she’d peeked in it felt like she was trespassing. It wasn’t the first time she’d been in this room, but no one knew about those last couple of times. At least she didn’t think so… It’d be awkward if they had... Hm. Anyway, now that she was a professor at her old academy, she was supposed to be in here. She still couldn’t shake that not-quite-real anxiety that fluttered in her belly every time she stepped in a room or area of the castle that she wasn’t allowed to be in as a student. Admittedly, though, she liked the thrill of it.
Reaching down and reorganizing a few of the papers that surrounded her on the floor, she read over the patchwork syllabus she was putting together. Oh yeah. That made more sense.
Most professors had already finalized their syllabi, set up their rooms and were now just taking this last day before classes began tomorrow to relax. Margot was a bit more scattered. Her room still needed unpacking, both her class and her dorm. Staying on the campus grounds just made more sense for her. She’d be spending just about all of her time here, anyway. Any free time would probably be spent visiting her folks back in the states or catching the occasional pro quidditch match as old friends came through the area. Paying for an apartment she’d never use just didn’t strike her as a good idea, so she took up Kasch’s offer to room on the grounds in the staff dorms.
Sitting herself upright, she reached back and pulled her hair into it’s familiar ponytail before starting to gather the papers into a neat little stack. On her hands and knees and leather-clad ass in the air toward the door, Margot was completely in her own world until the throat cleared behind her.

New school year, new school year. New Vincent. Or rather slightly new Vincent. Rhianna Berkley and Nico Pippindori had cut him off from all alcohol during the end of last year. Meaning no more Mortelle Black, his absolute favorite drink. Wine infused with blood. Normally it was used as a delicacy among the hierarchy, but Vincent had previously become so co-dependent on the bottle. So much in fact that the demand was up which forced the Mortelle Estate to increase the price. Having it all readily available didn't help, but he was trying. Since June of last year, Vincent hadn't had a drop of the liquid life.
At least they couldn't take his herbs from him. As a seer, he needed them. Having learned to control the openness of his mind through mixtures and tinctures. Through incense and straight up smoking. It was definitely a step in the right direction. Nothing he burned would cause damage to his own lungs, nor the lungs of his students, and it was most definitely not marijuana. Vin had already been down the road of recreational drugs after the death of his wife and son's mother, he didn't want return to that life.
Vincent's feet began to grow cold and he looked down in confusion. Not entirely sure when the carpet of his classroom had turned to stone, and then he looked at his surroundings. Again the confusion swept across his face as he ran his fingers through his hair. Not entirely sure how he had ended up here, but shrugged instead, his feet carrying him the rest of the way down the hall. Pausing a moment as he noticed an open door. "Ms. Lacroix, you're not supposed to be in here." With that he paused, the smell that rolled of her skin catching his attention and he turned a moment. Again the confusion crept up on him and he took a step back, quickly rubbing his face. Maybe he had left his mind open for a little too long and everything was starting to come together finally. It was the only explanation.
"Wait.... Sorry. Sorry.... I... are you teaching here now? I must've missed the post when Kasch announced it. Common thing." Vincent bounced on his toes, feet bare as day, though they looked exceptionally clean.

Pocket-sized Hurricane
"Ms. Lacroix, you're not supposed to be in here."
Margot froze with a wince; immediately feeling like she was seventeen again and getting caught sneaking through the teacher dorms. To play a prank on a professor long gone now… not to sneak into bed with one of them. Definitely not. Gross. Margot had had fun with her professors but she hadn’t had that much fun. Not like one of her peers that she knew of… She wondered if any students were going to try and flirt with her for a better grade?
Meh. Wouldn’t work. She liked them older and not hormonal.
Speaking of… Wait - what?
Shaking her head to clear her rapid-fire thoughts, Margot got up to her feet and turned around; papers in hand as she brushed off her knees and backside where she was sure the dirt and dust from the floor discolored her leather pants. She grinned at the familiar face, even as it went through various phases of confusion.
”Hell yeah! I’m teaching Muggle Studies. Super appropriate considering I basically live the no-maj life now that I’m done with Quidditch.”
Setting down the papers on a nearby table, she moved quickly to Vincent and pushed herself up on her toes to wrap him up in a tight hug.
”It’s good to see you again! I heard Pippindorio is still here, too?!”
She had always favored her professors that had a sense of humor, and Pippindorio had been hilarious even if he hadn't meant to be. And Vincent, being her head of house, had let her get away with quite a bit when she’d been a student. It was admittedly something she took advantage of, but only because she’d never done anything really bad and against the rules. She just liked to push the limits and test people’s stock. There were a couple professors who didn’t respond well to Margot’s humor, though. She still had a small pit in her stomach over being peers with Professor Pierce. That man intimidated the shit out of her.
Stepping back out of the hug, Margot grinned and playfully bumped her fist into Vincent’s shoulder with a little waggle of her brows.
”So do I get to call you Vinnie now?”

There was no doubt in the world that Vincent had been spacey beyond belief. After dropping out of a vision it had always left him in a foggy state and he watched her carefully, blinking a moment or two before he bounced on his toes once more. Margot was a teacher and he definitely missed the bulletin, only to just have it proved to him. No longer an alcoholic mess like he was back when she was a student, no longer hitting the drugs hard and all that good stuff.
”Hell yeah! I’m teaching Muggle Studies. Super appropriate considering I basically live the no-maj life now that I’m done with Quidditch.”
It took him a moment to register her words. A bit slower in the uptake than he normally was and then he just laughs as she hugs him. If anything Vincent was always a hugger. What could he say, the man was just the touchy-feely type, but not in the creepy way. In fact he couldn't stand the creep types.
”It’s good to see you again! I heard Pippindorio is still here, too?!”
Parting his lips to speak, it took Vin another minute for the words she spoke to clear into his head space properly. A smile that reached his eyes as he hugged her back still. Hugs were good for the soul, they helped heal a lot of things, both physically and spiritually.
"Of course Nico is still teaching here, loopy as always which I wouldn't expect anything less. If I wasn't so interested in someone else, I may have already ended up in his pants. And Muggle Studies! That's fantastico! I'm sure you'll do well, though I have to say, the students now are much different than when you were here."
Vincent chuckled as she stepped away and punched him lightly in the shoulder. He knew who she was, that was a definite. There was no way he could forget her face or name, but there were bits and pieces that he was always going to be missing. Late nights, strong highs, black outs and hangovers. It was something that he would have to live with. Missing most of his sixteen year old son's life because of his own choices, but he was trying. Really trying.
"So do I get to call you Vinnie now?"
A grin still sat on his face. If anything Margot had been one of his favorite students. Her pranks never really hurt anyone, so he didn't really care as long as her work was completed.
"I mean, unless it gets you off calling me Professor Mortelle, but even I don't like being called that. So yea, Vinnie. Or Vin. Whatever you want really." He gives her a happy smile. "I'm glad that you're here though. We've been needing a Muggle Studies teacher that actually understands the gadgets and such. Sure all the kids have phones and computers and such now, but they're still curious."

Pocket-sized Hurricane Margot grinned at the thought of Prof. Pippindorio and Mortelle together. They’d make a cute but odd couple, she thought. Heavy on the cute. Then again, she had a soft spot for both of them so it would be hard to dissuade her from that being anything but awesome. She wondered who Vin was so interested in, though… She eyed him curiously and smirked; crossing her arms as she regarded him. Barefoot, rocking on his feet, and seemingly more “with it” than he had been when she was a student. Though he was a bit delayed right now, she could tell it wasn’t alcohol or drugs. Not like it used to be.
Laughing as he gave her permission to call him whatever she wanted, she shook her head and then gave him a thankful look.
”I’m nervous.”
Her smile was softer than normal; the slightest shrug of her shoulders before she exhaled and looked around the staff quarters. The admission whispered between them though it fell heavy at her feet. Quidditch was what she knew. It was what she was good at. After that was taken away from her she was at a loss until Kasch contacted her about the opening. She’d been honored, and excited, but now that the new career was literally tomorrow, Margot was feeling… jittery.
”It’s weird, being here again. And not just to visit, but to actually teach. I think my karma is going to come back and unload on me with a smorgasbord of unruly little shits.”
Despite her words, her laugh was amused. Like she could see it coming and she accepted it with open arms. What could she do? Argue that she didn’t deserve it? That’d be a poor lie at best.
Opening her mouth like she had something to say, Margot stopped and then snapped her mouth closed; smiling up at Vinnie before jumping up and wrapping him up in another hug.
”It’s really nice to see you again.”
Squeezing him tight, she held on for a moment before dropping down and turning; grabbing her papers from the table and then turning to leave the room. But not before smiling over her shoulder at him.
”See you around, co-worker Vinnie!”
With that she stuck out her tongue and practically skipped down the hall.
Not much had changed with Margot.
