okay, potions was really starting to piss Mihaela off. She'd been working on the same one for the last week or two and while it was slowly getting better it wasn't what she needed. It was absolutely frustrating to her.
On top of that, she was working on setting up a short intern type visit to St Mungos later in the year and the Halloween masquerade was slowly ticking closer.
Maybe I won't go this year.
That was always a possibility. She always entertained the idea of asking someone. There actually happened to be someone she had a crush on...but well, it was a stupid ridiculous crush.
Closing her potions book and pushing it across the table with her foot, she pulled out a small joint and lit it, inhaling deeply before she sat back thinking. Maybe she would ask Kaspar. Worst case scenario, he said no and she had her excuse to not go. That was actually what she was fully expecting anyways.
Taking another drag, she let it out slowly before standing up. she might as well go find him and get this over with. As she turned however, she didn't expect him to be walking in...

Still the news of his father's death was weighing heavy on his shoulders. His brother and sister took it hard, but Kaspar was more in a constant state of shock than anything else. When the words left Kasch's lips his deepest and greatest fear had been realized and he wasn't sure what to do. Taking some time to gather himself, his features grew colder by each passing hour. Normally Kaspar had left himself open for conversation even if he didn't want it. There was a thing about people all up in his space, but it was more the social anxiety that pushed him over the edge that anything else. Coming over from Ophiuchus, where he had been spending a lot of his time, he slipped into the Vulpecula Common Room and took a deep breath.
Marijuana. Maybe he could just take a hit of that and melt away. This was Kaspar though, he barely put alcohol to his lips, usually only in grand social situations. Barely a flute of champagne crossed the threshold into his body. Looking up from his hands he had spotted Mihaela Howard. Kaspar wanted to say something, but nothing actually came out when his lips had parted and he shifted a moment before turning to head to the kitchenette fixing himself a mug of coffee.

She froze when she saw him. The thought of asking him to the dance was still bouncing around in her head, but she expected she'd still have some time before she ran into him. Apparently, she had been wrong.
Watching him open his mouth and close it, she couldn't help but feel bad for him. Losing a parent like that was rough. Not that she had any idea. But with as close as she was to her own father, she'd be devastated if he died. The change in Kaspar had been obvious to her, even if not everyone else fully noticed it. But she spent a lot of time watching people.
Mihaela couldn't help but bite her lip slightly before putting her joint out and following him slowly into the other room.
"Hey..Kaspar. Can I ask you something?" Her voice held none of its usual snark as she spoke to him.

Kaspar needed the coffee more than he needed to talk to people. According to the Werner boy he was most definitely fine. Truth was, he was pretty sure that he was taking it harder than Klaudia or Kurtis. They had their own ways of dealing with things, but the death of his father was his absolutely worst fear. Now that fear was a reality. And he didn't know how to function.
The social anxiety was at an all time high and he was so tired of people asking what they were going to do, or where they were going to go, or if they were going to go into a home, or if they were going to sell the house or whatever. Kaspar was fed up and done with it, and they would figure it all out as the punches rolled in. The Werners were resilient, they could with stand even the most terrible of storms. They had when their mother died. They had when their dad was away for work. The three of them had each other and right now that was all that mattered.
"Hey.. Kaspar. Can I ask you something?"
Asking something meant needing to answer something. Asking something meant something was up or they were worried about him. Fuck.
"Yea, what's up?" Kasp couldn't help as he swallowed and really busied himself with making his coffee, too much cream, too much sugar. Shit. Everything was flooding him at once as he moved to dump out the liquid down the drain and filled the cup with more of the piping hot black liquid.

Mihaela leaned against the counter on the other side of the small room, giving him space. She didn't want him to feel like she was trying to invade anything. Normally people took her for sarcastic and a bit of a partier. While true, she was more like her father on the inside; patient and rather compassionate. No one saw it much and that was okay with her.
"I was gonna ask...Did you want to go to the Halloween Masquerade? with me that is?" He was going to say no and she knew it. That still didn't stop her from feeling a bit nervous. But at least if he said no she could use it as an excuse to not go.
She busied herself with her nails as she waited.

Maybe he was reading into it too much. Her actions, her asking him something. It could have been anything and what she said he didn't expect in the slightest. No, Kaspar wanted to say no, he really did, but at the same time he had realized that maybe this was an in? He had been engaged to Evangeline, the ring now gone from his finger. As anti-social as he was, he was slightly confused. Maybe she was asking him as a last resort? It could have been pity, since his dad just died and all. No. There was something else there. looking at the way her body spoke it's language he tried his best not to drop his coffee as he mulled it over.
Maybe she was going to cast him to the wolves and watch him... "Sure. It'll be fun." Instantly the panic flags started to raise up and he couldn't stop the feeling in his chest. Sure? Kaspar, you just offered to go to a dance with a lovely girl that you may have been keeping in your sights for a while, but were just too damn scared to say anything. Sure?! It'll be fun?! You liar, it's not going to be fun, well okay maybe, but with all those people? The entire school? It'll be fun.

Normally, Mihaela was hard to surprise. Living with a father who had worked at St Mungo's and now a Muggle ER and her mother, she had seen and heard it all. Being a prefect and then Head Girl, she had been privy to all sorts of things. Nothing really fazed her, at least not in the same way it would faze normal people. She didn't normally get nervous or antsy, even in a medical emergency or when attempting to defend her own self.
Kaspar threw everything she knew about herself out the window.
Sure. It'll be fun.
His words rang in her head a moment and she couldn't help but blink. A no...a no was what she had been expecting. A no was what she had been prepared for.A no...
That was not a no.
Her green eyes looked back up at him from her nails. "R-really?!" So help her god she stumbled over her word for a moment. Her cheeks flushed slightly and she couldn't help the smile that crossed her lips. In essence, she felt like a little kid at the moment and it was embarrassing for the normally cool-headed Vulpecula girl. "You...you know you don't have to if you don't want to?" She didn't want him to feel forced at all, but she'd be lying if she said she didn't want to go with him. Obviously. She asked him after all.
It was actually a weird moment for her. Normally, she saw what she wanted and went for it. Boldly. Confidently. With Kaspar she was finding that it was becoming the opposite and she had no fucking idea how to handle it except to look back down at her hands in embarrassment.

The way she looked up at him also caught him off guard. Kaspar was really just as surprised as she was and he swallowed roughly. "Yes, really."
Mihaela was blushing, which in turn caused him to blush and it just went from there. No, he wasn't embarrased or anything of the like, but it was the way she looked... happy. Usually she was cool and level, but the look on her face was really warm. Kaspar actually enjoyed the fact that she looked this way when he spoke to her, but he wouldn't ever tell her that.
"You... you know you don't have to if you don't want to?"
And then she looked back to her hands. "I wouldn't have said yes if I didn't want to."

Mihaela was embarrassed and she didn't know how to end it. Especially when she noticed the faintest tinge of red on Kaspar's cheeks and she couldn't help but rub her nose softly. As if that would help and totally not call any attention to her flustered state.
Totally.
"I wouldn't have said yes if I didn't want to."
So...he wanted to go with her? Or just to the dance in general? And why on earth was she starting to overthink this? She knew that his engagement had recently ended and she couldn't help but wonder if there had actually been more between it than she had thought, and maybe she was a rebound.
Holy fuck when did she get like this?
Licking her lips softly, she glanced back up at him. "So...we should probably match then...?" Did she think this far ahead? Nope. Not really.

Okay, so this was going to be good. It had to be good. Being free from Evangeline's grasp felt really good, but at the sametime it had terrified him. Kaspar had a hell of a time making friends, let alone finding romantical interest, so this ws good. As usual he was overthinking it to the point of overthinking the fact that he was overthinking and analyzing the situation before he had a chance to even let it flourish, but once she said something all of that panic went away and an odd sense of calm came about him.
Matching. Yes definitely they should match. Or close. "Of course. What color are you thinking?" Kaspar smiled ot her, calmly, but soon the thoughts started to flood his head again waiting for her to speak so that she could shut them up for him.

Why couldn't being around Kaspar be as easy as being practically anyone else? She never had these sorts of problems around Abbie or Chen or anyone else she hung out with. It was stupid.
What color was she thinking? Furrowing her brow she realized she had no idea. And then he smiled and she couldn't help the momentary stare before she realised what she was doing "Honestly...I hadn't even thought that far ahead. I, uh...I was all sorts of prepared to hear you say 'no' that my mind is still processing that uh, you didn't" Rubbing her nose again she tried to think. "Dark purple or green?
Those sounded like good colors she thought...
And somehow they ended up going shopping in London. And tried on clothes. There was lots of blushing and sideways glances and dinner and Kaspar bought her dress because he is a jerk face.
Good times.
