- OCTOBER 8 To be out of school was refreshing. To be out of America for a bit was freeing. And if there was anything Dylan Zelinsky like it was to be free. Although as the only son of a higher up in the Magical Congress of the United States, freedom was relative. Sometimes it took a little hoodwinking and slight of hands. A quick exit stage left. And that's what brought him to.. What the hell is the name of this place again? He didn't have the slightest clue. As far as he knew, he was still in Switzerland at least. The signs hadn't seemed to change languages yet. But beyond that, all he knew was that he was in some quaint little village. Magical at least from the signs that surrounded him. At least he was pretty sure Europe hadn't decided to lift their statute of secrecy and allow Nomaj's to notice the obvious magical touches. Like the building that was leaning way to far to the right to be able to stand without invisible assistance. Or the cauldrons stirring themselves. Or the magical beings like house elves scurrying about. Definitely magical. Because although he knew that they were more lax about relationships and dealings with Nomajs than then the States, he was pretty sure that there was no way they'd let all non magical people know about their existence. The mayhem if that happened would be... Well, Dylan thought, it would be beautiful.
Laughing to himself, he stepped into a small cafe to pick up a cup of coffee and a small croissant. He'd have to keep his head down for a bit if he wanted to have some space to breathe. It was his hope that his dad's goonies went ahead Italy or something to look for him. That's where they'd expect him after all. In some sort of big city surrounded by gorgeous women. A smirked crossed his lips as he watched a rather attractive girl walk past him on his way out of the shop, head turning to check her out. Gorgeous women could be found everywhere really. template by Sammy @ Adox 2.0

Vera glanced at the tall dark-haired boy as he walked in and then back down to her phone where she was texting back and forth with Jazzy about class while also trying to covertly gather some crucial information for Alex. She wasn’t faking being friends with Jazzy, but it felt weird to chat favorite colors and stuff. Coming off the Slumber Party she had more information than before, and Alex of course tried to grill her for it all. Inwardly, Vera was amused her brother was so strung up on a girl. It was nice to see him get a taste of his own damn medicine. She just hoped Jazzy had some thick skin ‘cause her brother could be a total asshole sometimes and not even realize it.
When her order was called, she stepped up and thanked the barista with a smile. She wore her favorite dark wash jeans, knee-high boots with extra warmth against the snow, and a fitted puffy jacket with a fur-lined hood. Her sunglasses helped hide most of her face, but inside she had them up and positioned at the top of her head; holding the loose tendrils that framed her face back momentarily. She wasn’t too worried about anyone trying to pull anything with her brother here. Though he was waiting outside, all she had to do was yell for him and he’d come in goofy fists a blazing.
Snatching up the hot chocolates, the croissant and the cookie she ordered for the pair of them, Vera turned and moved outside; passing by the dude and raising an eyebrow at his stare before shaking her head and stepping out onto the street.
”Here’s your- … alright then.”
Alex snatched the croissant out of Vera’s hand as soon as she brought it out; his cheeks puffing out as he shoved the bite that was way too big for his mouth into his cheeks and grinned before making grabby hands for his cocoa. Ignoring the roll of Vera’s eyes, he peeled it away and took a drink before wincing at the heat.
Vera’s laugh was borderline annoyed and had a hint of i-told-you-so even though she hadn’t said anything and Alex was wary of her attitude. He continued to chew his croissant and eyed her cookie just before she turned away with a suspicious glare when she noticed the dark-haired guy staring at them through the window. She nodded her head toward him and looked at Alex, her face twisted in confusion and concern.
”Do you know that guy?”
He laughed; nearly choking on the croissant and shook his head. Who the hell would he know here? Still, he turned his head and looked into the cafe and stopped; pastry half hanging out of his mouth as his brain finally registered what his eyes were seeing.
With a dramatic phhhbt he spat his croissant out and grinned; eyes wide and arms even wider as he turned to face the window completely.
”DYLLIE Z!”
His sister made a quick, accusatory sound as she dodged his breakfast, snapping something rude at him but he was already through the door of the cafe; the little bell chiming his abandonment of his little sister on the Chillhorn street.
”BUDDY!”

- OCTOBER 8
If there was a pretty girl, Dylan was going to look. If she had a problem with him looking....well, that wasn't his problem. Unless she had a boyfriend or something. Then really, it still wasn't his problem. The dark haired girl with the allure calling that walked past him didn't seem to enjoy his thought process.
But it wasn't just that she was pretty, or that she had that weird allure thing going (Seriously, he wondered, What the hell is that?). He also couldn't help but look at her because she looked so damn familiar. Figuring out why she did was a completely different story.
The American was, in every essence of the word, a play boy. If you were to ask him how many girls he had been with, he most likely couldn't give you an answer. A ballpark range maybe. For the most part though, he could remember them. Or well most of them. Okay, he could remember a few, and only the ones that really blew him away.
But he didn't think this girl was one of them. She was way too young for one.
Pulling his eyes away from this mystery to drink his coffee, he never noticed the guy she was standing with. He didn't see the spitting out of food or the wide eyed look and grin. He saw none of this until he heard that dumbass nickname get yelled out and the next second none other than Alex Westman was jumping into his arms.
"Oh Jesus fuck"
He acted on instinct more than anything as he caught the younger boy. The croissant and coffee falling from his hands in resignation as he looked down, completely bewildered.
There were few people that could get away with that ridiculous nickname or jumping into his arms like a woman. He could count them all on one hand: Alex. That was about it. Maybe a girl or two, but really if anyone else tried it they would be promptly hexed into next week. But for some odd reason he had a protective stance when it came to the other kid and treated him like the younger brother he never had.
Plus, it was really fucking hard to not like the guy. And no, not that kind of like.
"Are you stalking me Westman?"
For a brief moment, his mind decided that his dad sent the Nomaj after him. Quickly though he dismissed that thought. First off, Alex had no idea anything about his family's standing in the magical world. Second off, his father would never turn to a Nomaj for help. And third, and most importantly.... there's no way anyone would send Alex on any sort of recon type of mission.
So then why the hell is he in the same place as me?
And then it sort of clicked. They were in a magical village. The other guy had a magical sister. His dark eyes looked up at the girl he had been staring at and it made more sense.
"Ooooh! You're Vera. God that makes sense now. I couldn't figure out why the hell you looked familiar." With a grin he promptly dropped his friend with no warning. "I need more coffee before I can pretend to keep up with you." That was obviously a joke. Dylan could keep up with Alex no problem. And surpass him.
As he was about to go in and buy another coffee, he saw Vera sigh and head in. Well, if she wanted to buy him a coffee then he wasn't about to stop her.
"So you never told me your sister is hot."

”Are you stalking me Westman?”
Alex scoffed; shooting Dylan an incredulous look like he should already know the answer to that.
”Dude. Obviously.”
Remaining comfortably cradled in Dylan’s arms, Alex grinned at his best friend from the states thinking in all seriousness that Dylan had just come to surprise him here in Switzerland. He had remained in pretty much constant contact with Dylan through the organization of his grandparent’s wake and his decision to try and get in to Zurich University after Vera left the states. The thought that Dylan hadn’t considered any of that when coming to Switzerland did not even cross Alex’s mind. And if it did, it’s doubtful it would have stood a chance against his belief that his friend was here for him and not to escape some tyrannical family he knew nothing about.
Simple.
Easy peasy.
Turning his head to look at Vera as she stepped inside and with a sigh ordered replacement croissants and hot cocoas, he grinned at her and then at Dylan as he made the connection.
”Yup!” Then at Vera’s weird look he blinked and then glared at Dylan as if he just realized what he had said. ”What? Dude! That’s my sister. And she’s way too young for you anyway.
Vera’s expression was one of either icy death or blazing inferno, he couldn’t tell, but he didn’t care because Vera was all bark when it came to Alex.
’Did you forget how to walk or do you just like being cradled like a baby by large strapping young men?’
She by no means was paying Dylan a compliment, though in retrospect she could see how he took it as one as Alex gave her a shocked expression and then jokingly nuzzled into Dylan’s cheek before he was dropped to the floor. With a laugh, he barely managed to catch himself on his own two feet before clapping Dylan on the shoulder and then giving a brief but official introduction.
”Vera, Dylan. Dylan, Vera. Dylan is my wingman.”
Vera smirked and lifted her cocoa to her mouth with a raised eyebrow before Alex cleared his throat and corrected himself.
”Was. Was my wingman.”
Looking over at Dylan, Vera raised her eyebrow and then handed him his replacement coffee as the barista came around the corner to start cleaning up the mess. She turned her attention to him, moving to help as Alex and Dylan caught up quickly.
”Dude! Why didn’t you tell me you were coming to visit? I have so much to catch you up on.” Leading Dylan away, Alex shook his head and kissed his fingertips with an italian-esque flare. ”The girls here, dude… I mean, the school Vera is in? Beauregard? Holy shit… I met this one girl.”
Alex was in his own world, grinning stupidly as he imagined Jazzy standing in front of them. He turned and looked at Dylan as he licked his lips and leaned in.
”I think she’s it, man. I need your help. I’m trying to get something for her. A gift before this ball thing she’s taking me to… Not like a ring or anything too crazy but just… something nice.”

- OCTOBER 8
Dylan couldn't help but laugh. It was hard to keep a straight face around Alex, even on his worst of days. The poor Nomaj probably didn't even realise that his best friend was one random happenstance away from a 180 emotional flip switch that would leave a wake of destruction around him.
Did I remember my meds...?
He should really check his bag later. That might be important.
"Hey, too young or not she still is." He looked up and gave Vera his very best smile. It wasn't one he actually used on girls he was trying to get but more of a goofball one because of the goofball who managed to catch himself before he fell on his ass. "It's nice to finally meet you Vera."
And then he blinked at Alex's correction a past tense form. Was. Was his wing man.
Was?
Taking his coffee with a thanks, the look on his face was one of utter confoundment and surprise. Was this the same Alex that had left him only a month or two ago? he had noticed that his friend's texts had gotten a bit more random, but he never thought....this.
Alexander Westman had a girlfriend?
He looked at Vera as if that would make it make any more sense before looking at his friend again. This wasn't just a girlfriend. Alex had had girlfriends before. No this was different. Dude was in love.
"I uh...it was spur of the moment, coming here." So fucking true it wasn't even funny. He still hardly even knew where 'here' was. "Hold on hold on...I'm still processing here. You have a girlfriend?" He looked at Vera. "This kid has a girlfriend? Like an actual one and not one of the crazies?"
His best friend has a girl, was in love, and wanted to actually get a girl a gift. He was practically glowing.
"Next you're gonna tell me, she's pregnant or you're gettin' married." Dylan looked up sharply. "You're not right? I can't handle that much of my world getting all shaken." He laughed. "Okay, tell me about this mystery girl that has you head-over-heels." Taking a sip of his coffee, he raised his eyebrow. This should be good.
