It had been a rollercoaster couple of days. Several days, actually. Rhett was stable at St. Mungo’s, though she still went to see him every chance she could. Classes only waited for so long when you attended Beauregard, however. If she wanted to keep her grades up and remain enrolled in school, she needed to return. So the days she had classes, she was on campus, and the days she did not, she was at St. Mungo’s. It was as simple as that. Days like this were the worst though. Vera had two classes in the morning, a large break where she had no electives, and then the remainder of her courses in the evening. The break was just long enough to drive her mad, but not long enough to excuse herself off toward the hospital to visit Rhett. And the worst part was how many students looked at her with pity, or curiosity, or in some instances disdain. They wanted to know about Rhett but they felt guilty asking the questions they wanted to ask. And they knew Vera wouldn’t answer them anyway. The one kid that asked got a very subtle trip down the stone steps at the front of the campus. Luckily, though, these breaks gave her some much needed time in the Forge. She was there now, jacket, hat and scarf draped over a nearby bench as working with the metals and coals kept her warm enough despite the frigid temperatures around her. Her sunglasses were placed on top of her jacket and her hair pulled back in a quick and messy french braid to keep her hair out of her eyes. She didn’t put on an apron, unafraid of getting burned with this sort of work. It was more like… glass blowing the way Vera handled the metal. She used the traditional elements the most; anvils, pliers, stakes…. But when the pieces were cooled and ready to be combined, Vera used her magic. Her wand was perfect for this sort of magic. For working with metals in general. She held the tip to the edge of the metal and dragged it along the edge; concentrating on maneuvering all the pieces together so they formed perfectly. When she was done, a small chinese dragon about the size of her arm made of copper, gold and iron stood on the block before her. She crouched down to look at it; inspecting it thoroughly before she tapped it on the nose. The metal sculpture shivered and then stretched, looking around and then beginning to walk as though it were in the center of a Chinese New Year parade. Vera’s smile was small, but there, as she stood up and looked down at it. Just a small project. But it helped calm her nerves for now. template by Sammy @ Adox 2.0

It had taken Evangeline far longer than she'd have liked to find Vera, although it did give her time to think over what she was going to say. Granted, she had given it all quite a lot of thought the past few days.
As she strolled the grounds to the forge, she could see Vera through one of the little windows, a small smile creeping on the girls face, which, given recent circumstances was a rarity, so there really wasn't a better time than now to get right down to it.
Evangeline knocked quietly on the door, swallowing as she looked to the girl and quickly holding her hands up. "I came wandless. As a sign of good faith in the hopes that you would at least hear me out..." She waited a moment to see if she was going to be met with a hex or something similar before she spoke again, lingering in the doorway. "Saying that we got off on the wrong foot is cliche, I know. But we did. In a sense. I..I know what happened, you don't have to yell a play by play back at me. We were both.." she sighed softly and looked to the girl. "I came to ask if you would atleast consider forgiving me for what happened because I am sorry that it did. "
She knew full well that a simple apology wasn't going to change the girls mind about her, nor would it have appealed to the kinder side of her. Generic apologies wouldn't do that. But something personal would at least open the door. When Evangeline put her mind to it, she could be downright sweet and damn convincing.
"I heard what happened to your friend. I figured...wondering whether or not I was going to be all...duel bitch at you again wasn't something you needed. Not now." she swallowed once more and offered a small smile to her. "What I did isn't excusable, but I do want you to know what was going on behind it...When you're raised how I was, certain...things are expected of you. Certain views are inescapable until you adopt them as your own." she moved inward a little and leaned against the wall. "I was supposed to...well I was going to be forced to marry someone I didn't love. Someone I barely knew. I was so upset that night because I had just sent another letter to my father to beg him not to make me go through with it. And then you showed up and...well..I reacted the only way I knew how. "
She breathed out quietly once more and looked down, her brows furrowing. "Look, I'm not saying we should be best friends, or meet up for coffees twice a week. I know thats probably a long shot. And I'm not asking you to forgive me. But...if we could just...not hate each other? Be able to pass each other in the halls or sit in classes together without tormenting each other or saying horrible things, it would be a start? I just don't want you to think I'm some...wretched monster, because really, I'm not. I just...seem to give off the worst impression of myself and I rarely get the opportunity to fix it."

Vera’s head turned at the sound of the knock, and when Evangeline stepped into sight Vera was immediately defensive. She gripped her wand tightly in her hand and moved quickly to face her; not about to give the German bitch her back but when Evangeline’s hands went up and empty, Vera hesitated. It gave Evangeline just enough of an opening to continue, though Vera’s eyes remained narrowed with distrust. The last time she’d faced her on her own, Vera had been on the receiving end of a horrible beat down - though Evangeline had not escaped unscathed. Blue eyes remained focused on her in pinpointed slivers but the girl’s words were slowly beginning to dig in past her defenses. She frowned, her wand lowering as she exhaled and relaxed her stance. Evangeline moved a step into the forge with her and leaned against the wall, and Vera felt… unsure. She related to what Evangeline was saying. Her mood that night had been fueled by a sense of betrayal that was immature and unfair to even hold onto. But Evangeline’s attack had been at just the right moment, Vera’s temper still on a hairpin trigger, and the rest, well… There was no need to relive it over and over again. Reaching up, she rubbed at her shoulder where the spell had just barely missed her unconsciously; shaking her head with a small growl of frustration before she sighed and turned her eyes back on Evangeline. ”That sucks, I’m sorry. And... it wasn’t entirely your fault.”’That’s right, sugarpie…’ Vera could practically hear her Grandmother’s voice in her ear; the feel of her hand running through her hair in encouragement. ’Forgiveness weighs less than a grudge.’ She wished more than anything that she was actually here, actually standing right beside her, but it was all in her head. Just her grief manifesting in a soft and painful way. Glancing away from Evangeline, Vera wasn’t keen on spilling her entire motivation for being at the owlery that night. Of needing to write a letter to her friend back in Ilvermorny that just word-vomited her emotions at the time. That explained her frustration over liking Malachai but being unsure, and then of hesitating and seeing him with that other girl and just…. The heartache. ”My grandparents, who raised me, just died before I came here. My aunt who I had never met before their wake took me and my brother in and moved us here. I can never be sure how someone truly feels about me because I never know if they’re reacting to my Veela blood or not. All of that just came together in one night, and well.”Those blue eyes returned to the other girl’s and Vera pursed her lips in resignation. ”You were there, so… No explanation needed.”Her lips twisted up in a dry, half-fledged smirk before she slipped her wand in her back pocket and then crossed her arms casually; her weight shifting on her feet as she faced Evangeline. ”I think it’s safe to say I don’t think you’re wretched.”Vera’s eyes lit up just a little as she canted her head and smirked. ”Not anymore, anyway.”template by Sammy @ Adox 2.0

Evangeline listened as the girl explained her piece, nodding softly and quite genuinely surprised at the apology and admittance that it wasn't entirely her who was at fault for it all.
Her demeanor eventually shifted from cautious to relaxed and even sympathetic as she listened, her features much softer than her usual resting bitch face that normally graced them. "I...I didn't know that you lost them. It's no wonder you were so..I'm sorry." she offered quietly.
After a few moments longer, Vera had pocketed her wand and Evangeline couldn't help but blink. She hadn't expected her to, atleast not to her.
”I think it’s safe to say I don’t think you’re wretched. Not anymore, anyway.”
She looked down, laughing at the comment and smiling to her as she looked back up. "I really am glad to hear it. Maybe sometime, you'll let me introduce you to the real me? Not the one you met in the tower and tried to blow up." template by Sammy @ Adox 2.0
