I don't pray anymore
Friday October 28th 2016 | @dianthus
It had been just shy of two months since Dianthus had started. Six weeks or so since he first laid eyes on her. Six weeks of getting tea and coffee orders, of making copies, of running errands. Or doing all the work no one else in the office wanted to do. Lincoln oversaw all of it; his usual stern tone and stoic expression leaving Dianthus little way of deciphering how he felt about her. It seemed pretty clear that he had a distaste for her presence, but there was that one time that one of his employees took it too far with Dianthus that left the truth of his views uncertain. After Dianthus had begun to reorganize and label the archived files, an employee had come in, looked it over, and with an air of arrogance demanded she start over. Lincoln had overheard, on his way down to check on Dianthus progress, had overheard the man ordering her around.
Stepping inside, Lincoln’s frame completely filled the doorway as he looked down at the employee. The man realized quickly that he had fucked up, and started to try and cover his behavior by pointing out that Dianthus had done something that Lincoln typically wouldn’t like. Dianthus, of course, spoke for herself, and Lincoln’s eyes didn’t flick away from the man once when Dianthus was speaking. At first it came across as though Lincoln were going to side with the other man; the same tone he always took with Dianthus filling the room with a deep rumble.
”Go upstairs and meet me in my office, lass.”
No one could miss the smirk on the other man’s face as Dianthus left, but before the other employee could leave, Lincoln moved to fill the exit again and stared him down.
”You’re to finish the project here before you go home. Exactly as it was begun.”
Turning, he stepped out of the archives and closed the door on the shocked face of the employee behind him; shifting his gaze to Dianthus who hovered close enough to hear. He inhaled quietly and gestured for her to move on to his office as he had ordered.
No words were exchanged as they marched; Lincoln just behind her like an executioner leading his charge to the gallows. Once inside his office, he shut the door behind them and made his way to his desk. He sat down and lifted his hand up to his forehead as he looked over the reports on his desk. Tapping his pen against the desk in thought, he read over the last few lines before exhaling a long sigh and lifting his eyes up to Dianthus without moving his head.
”As you know Halloween is right around the corner. I’m going to need you available at a moment’s notice. Do you understand?”
Was… was he telling her he was going to take her on the field…?
