Twilight Tea had been hers for a little under a year now, and she was barely holding it all together. Ollie was her saving grace, that was for sure. Once she replaced her old baker with him, well, the business had been much better. And the working relationship was incredibly pleasant. He balanced her out when the pressure and stress of a business began to get at her. He always managed to bring her smile back whether he meant to or not.
Today was one of those days where the pressure was getting to her.
Their sales this week had been low, and she was pouring over the paperwork in the back. She had just enough to make rent and payroll at the end of the month but if they continued to struggle as they were she was going to have to close the doors. She knew how much Ollie depended on this place to support his small family… she exhaled slowly and crunched a few more numbers in the back when she heard the chime at the front door signaling a patron. Turning her paperwork over on her desk, she stood and moved to the front; her smile coming quickly and easily despite her deep stress.
Stepping out from the small office space directly behind the front counter, Delilah was dressed in her usual garb for the work day despite the chilly weather outside. A chiffon floral blouse flowing around her frame tucked into a high-waisted skirt that moved whimsically just above her knees with every step.
”Hallo! Welcome to Twilight Tea Shop,” She greeted the stranger as she came around the counter to approach. She didn’t like having the counter between herself and the patrons, so she always walked around to greet them as if they were friends; out stretching her hands to those coming in for the first time or embracing in a light hug and kissing their cheeks if they’ve been in before.
Unless it was that jerk who worked at the Wand Repair shop. She stayed behind the counter for that one…
