WAY BACK WHEN...
[ HISTORY ]
There is just something fascinating about the human mind. That was why I had fallen in love with Erica when I was sixteen. It was actually here at Beauregard under Kasch's Grandfather's rule when everything happened. She was deeply in love with Everett, but I couldn't help but feel that subtle attraction to the woman. Her blonde hair, the way the sunlight hit her eyes. Everything about her was beyond perfect. It wasn't like I was her brother or anything. No. But I was her third cousin, or something along the sorts. It didn't matter now. Her claims were painful though. Everett was over the moon in love and I was just stranded on the sidelines. That was nearly seventeen years ago. Left rotting in my own mind.
Turns out the woman I had loved managed to get pregnant with her brother. You know that sinking feeling you get when everything is just going to hell around you and you're not entirely certain which way to turn? That was the feeling. Excestential dread and fear. I feared for the life of her child. Everett had a history of neglect and abuse, and I knew deep down that he wasn't going to be the father that his children deserved. Perhaps they would turn out like me? Prove that I was still there.
A lot had happened. Erica graduated. Everett graduated, and here I was. Left behind and longing to see what would become of that family. Restraining order. At seventeen I was served a restraining order by Everett on account of the children he and his sister had bore. Until they themselves turned seventeen, I was never allowed to see them. At that moment I knew that he knew. That was one of the things though, those children would never know how madly they were wanted.
At twenty I decided that I was going to head into the medical field. Psychology actually. I've always been very partial to the mind and emotions. I obsessed and worked as hard as I could to achieve what it was I sought. Upon my exit exams I landed a position at St. Mungos in the Mental Health Ward. It was a dream, but the way they treated their patients irked me tremendously.
How did one approach the subject? After I had heard of Everett and Erica's passing, how did you approach two boys with facts? It had been fifteen years, and I have heard of their mental deterioration. It's amazing how someone you have never met could force the direction of your life. Never had I brought it up, not once. Perhaps there was only one person in the world that knew my secret, but he was a patient, and maybe no one would believe him. I fought to work with him though, for his care. In order to not be treated like some fool. He wasn't. Not at all. The kid was brilliant, but he had been through so much in his life that I couldn't help but feel for him. It reminded me of who I could have been, if only. How much I could have prevented, if only. If, fucking, only.
But here I am. Moving on from the outdated practices of St. Mungos, to provide support to those that needed it most. The children. Hello again Beauregard. It's so nice to be back.
